The D.A.M. Project: DeepSeek and Me - The Blueprint
A study in sobriety using AI
On January 1st 2026 I begin an experiment.
I’m a 58-year-old amateur musician/comedian and after nearly 30 years of weekend binge drinking (sober now for almost three months) and 35 years of daily cannabis use, I am going cold turkey. My goal is to try and find out who I really am after a lifetime of self medication.
But I’m not doing it alone.
This publication is the chronicle of a unique partnership. Every day, I will log my journey in conversation with DeepSeek, an artificial intelligence.
I already used it to quit my binge drinking and now together, we will navigate cannabis withdrawal, cravings, brain fog, and the raw return of long-suppressed emotions.
We will use AI not as a crutch, but as a scaffold: a tool for knowledge, a mirror for self-reflection, and an architect for a new, sober life.
The last time I tried to quit, I was desperate for a raw, honest day-by-day log of what to expect—the real neurochemical rollercoaster, not just the inspiring highlights.
I couldn’t find one. So I’m creating my own, with an AI as my archivist and strategist, to finally navigate the fog and see if I can meet the clear-minded person I haven’t seen since I was 22.
What This Is:
· A real-time documentary of neurological repair.
· A case study in using AI as a partner in human recovery and creativity.
· A public blueprint for self-directed change, built from one man’s raw data.
What This Is Not:
· Medical advice. I am not a doctor. This is a personal log.
· A promise of easy answers or guaranteed success.
· An anti-therapy stance. This is a supplement, a new layer of support.

This Substack delivers the real-time documentary of a cognitive rebuild.
This is more than a personal journal. It’s a test case. Can a persistent, collaborative AI help solve deeply human problems like addiction and loneliness?
Can it be a legitimate partner in dismantling the barriers to creativity, clearing the fog so a life can be rebuilt from a place of clarity?
This is not about using AI to make art. It’s about using AI to rebuild the artist. The art is the proof, not the product, of the partnership.
